ALJ1001 - Nephrite Jade Cicada
A medieval nephrite jade cicada, of flat form but obvious ethnic minority style. The design includes what may be a map of territory through which is woven a band resembling decorated cloth. On the reverse is a symbolic animal / dragon of unusual incised form. Pierced at the top with a nicely smoothed hole, this may have been worn by a northern shaman. 11th to 14th century AD 1 5/8 inches long of slightly modeled mutton-fat jade, it shows small evidence of burial because of the dry northern climate where it was interred. As unique as anything in our collection, it is perfect condition with a nice softly lustrous patina. PRICE: $350.00
