AMJ1009 - Urn with Dragons
2 13/16 inch tall (including lid) covered miniature urn with protruding dragons at sides and top. Possibly used as an early cricket holder, it shows characteristics and workmanship of the early Ming (which certainly could have survived in some regional workshops into the later period). Well-hollowed inside and with a reticulated design of a spirit or shaman-form on each side. I have never seen another piece comparable. The jade is a soft, light brown with slight streaking similar to that found in several examples in the new Shanghai museum. An amazing technical tour-de-force. PRICE: $1500.00
AMJ1010 - Neolithic Jade Blade
Neolithic jade blade that was damaged and re-cut / polished during the Ming or thereabouts. The jade is quite old as evidenced by intense veining and possible cremation along the beveled edge, however, one side shows cruder polishing and the hole for suspension was crudely made during the medieval (probably by a minority group). Nonetheless, the piece retains good polish as the Mongolian-style jade is hard and durable. The piece may have been shamanistically utilized in pre-battle ceremonies and then carried by a leader during the conflict. The piece is 2 5/16 inches tall by 3/16 inches thick. PRICE: $190.00
AMJ1014 - Fabulous Ming 'Bi'
Fabulous Ming "Bi" with superb, deeply carved mystical designs incorporating a seed-grain surrounded by cloud-rain patterns. Excellent condition with even weathering and patina. Brownish-charcoal absorption in the tomb covers most of the piece. 3 inch outside diameter by 1/4 inch thick. Rare piece. PRICE: $850.00 [See picture of back]
