
ARJ1002 - Impressive Jade Bat on Ram
Fine and translucent light sea -green hard Xinjiang Nephrite. Jade highlights this complex ream with sacred "fungus of immortality" that was made in the shape of a long-life-symbolizing bat (which sits atop the ram's hindquarters). Superbly carved and smoothly finished, it is mid-20th century. Perfect condition, 1-78" long x 1" tall, it suspends nicely at top center with a dark brown silk cord. AQJ1023 - Antique Qing Jade Crouching Fu Lion
Croching Fu Lion or Fu Dog with fangs bared in the classic posture of a "protector beast". Made of a light brownish very hard Manchurian Jade from Liaoning province, he dates to the 1st half of the 19th century. 1-7/8" long x 1-1/8" tall, this mystical animal is extrememly well-carved in the round. Phoenix- bird plaque, of flawless pale-celadon hard jade, that would only be used by one of the Ladies-in-waiting of the Empress or female relative. The head of the Phoenix looks back across it's body in a beautiful, tapering design. AQJ1025 - Antique Qing Jade Sucker-Fish
Sucker-fish or type of catfish in geyish-white hard and strong Manchurian Jade from Liaoning Province, NE China. The smooth form was clearly an amulet for a fisherman or seafood dealer, and is late Ming or early Qing (1550- 1760 century AD.) Traces of black and orange "skin" were retained by the carver, who created a bold and durable form. Perfect condition, the fish stands for prosperity and abundance. 3" long x 1 1/4" wide. AQJ1026 - Antique Qing Jade Year Of The Rat
"Year of the Rat" Temolite jade from central China, in mottled green tones with reddish-brown veining from absorption of iron-rust in the earth. 1-3/4" long x 1" tall, it is nicely formed in-the-round by a provincal carver. Late Qing (19th century), the purpose was to keep rats from the grain storehouses by honoring them with the wearing of such an amulet... putting the "spirit-beliefs" in practice. Mongolian river-jade-pebble Fish, that is perforated lengthwise. It's simple and well-smoothed form allows for unimpeded vertical suspension. 16th-18th century, from the Yellow River Valley in the far north, it is a fine tribal folk piece. Pleasing blend of celadon-green to black colors, in excellent condition, traces of use and burial are present. 2-3/8" long. The fish symbolizes abundance, prosperity, and sometimes mairtal fertitily. AQJ1028 - Antique Qing Jade Pebble Cicada
Mongolian river-jade pebble-carving of a stylized Cicada (major aid to immortality-of-the-spirit) that was usuallyy placed oon the tongue of deceased. North China/Inner Mongolia, this is a classic tribal piece from the 16th-18th century period. The hard jade is black-to-off-white, with ageing from burial. 2-1/8th" long x 13/16" wide, it is in exellent condition and a companion piece to the fish above ( Yellow River Valley).
